Let Me Go Home

The hair on my head is brown

You’ve combed it many times over the last few weeks

My eyes watched your every move, now I just listen

I smile as you wash my face

These things I have taken for granted through my years

Now mean more than you will ever know

I can no longer do them on my own and I realize

My days are fading faster than I would like to admit

The nurses check on me and they ask if you need a break

Maybe go get something to eat, make the phone calls

You go because this is becoming so heavy

You need to breathe, you say I’ll be right back

No worries, I’m just waiting for your permission to go

I know you will be able to carry on when I’m gone

But I need your permission to go

So, I will hang on as long as I can, but please let me go

Please let me go home
