Nights

The night was lit by a million sparkling diamonds in the sky
shining and twinkling
for eternity
it seemed.
The creek babbled as it always did. The bonfire reached new heights.
The soft murmuring of couples, each person consumed with their partner.
No worries on any of their faces.
What a beautiful night.
It’s nights like these that make the week bearable. Knowing, come Friday evening, the city no longer existed.
Cellphones can’t ring in these mountains.
Only friends, fire, and the sound of nature
makes this place paradise.
That’s all anyone needs.
To be surrounded by these things
to know that for two nights
peace actually does exist.
That is living at its finest.
